December 2011
President’s Message…….. As 2011 is coming to an end, it is heartwarming to recognize the success of the Chamber of Commerce during the past year. First, and foremost, the many businesses that support the Chamber/events are the backbone of the Chamber. The Chamber of Commerce is fortunate to have a high number of businesses that are members and they provide the much needed financial support. The Board of Directors work diligently throughout the year to find ways to increase business and traffic into the Town. They also make every effort to ensure that the funds from all of the benefits are used in a responsible and appropriate method to further the needs of the businesses. This year, the Chamber made a commitment to use some of the Crab Carnival profit to assist the Town with further development of the Park. The Park has been a high point for residents and visitors throughout the year. As you know, the Chamber sponsors many events in the Park during the year. In addition to Chamber volunteers, many others come forward during the year to assist with various events. We are very fortunate in the town to have so many dedicated volunteers to assist with the functions. This year, the Board of Directors made the decision to change the accounting system of the Chamber. Mary Gene Simmons and Janice McGowan have worked many hours to implement this new system. We hope to have a much improved accounting and tracking system with this new software. Many thanks to the dedicated Board of Directors for their support and assistance: Last, but not least, Janice McGowan is the face and voice of the Chamber to most of the members and the public. We must express our gratitude for her consistent smile and good work for the Chamber. She is truly dedicated to the Chamber and our community. Thank you very much, Janice. My term as President has been made much easier because of your help and assistance. Nominations for 2012 Slate of Officers: Again, many thanks to the above list of volunteers that will be managing the Chamber business for 2012. Please continue to support them as you have done with the past slate of officers. Last but not least, thanks to everyone for your support and allowing me to serve as President. Serving as President of the Chamber is a humbling experience and no matter how much we try to determine the needs of the various businesses in the area, we know we need your direction and support. Please feel free to contact anyone on the list of the officers or Janice at the Chamber office and offer your suggestions, ideas, and comments.
Have a safe and happy New Year! Sandra Willis
